Kinderzeichnungen, Child’s drawing

Long time no see

The first tattered books that I found on the roadside, I could not take it home. I should be a decent kid. But the images have fascinated me magical. What do I have drawn with years see here.

Before that there were already lots of pictures on technical details in cars and airplanes. Then came the war images has been primarily inspired by the stories of my father. He was in the Air Force. Then I invented my own super war machines. I’ll introduce you at times still. Since my parents have picked up everything I am now in possession of an incredible treasure images.

I often flip around in it and the images evoke old emotions and memories in me. I do not know what surprised me more – I am now grown old, or that something in me is still that little boy who dreams with his pictures in a different world.

But certainly, the innocence of these children pictures I lost. Something has happened. The spirits who took possession of Lambert visited me one day … or maybe I was born with them. Life is a mystery.

The desire of my parents that I would be a decent boy had initially good approaches. This comic is about a gift for mom. But eventually it went from mountain and there was only lead bullets for the wicked.

I think there is only “Propellermann in English” and “Bells Theorem”. Oh I forget. Also “Tak Dirty”. All published in USA. If more questions, ask.
      Best Matthias

I know I may be late to the party, but I’m all for new prints of Matthias’s work in English. He really deserves to be much better known in what’s probably the largest Western comic market. Franco-Belgian comic artists Schuiten & Peeters are currently getting their 80s and 90s back catalogue of work re-printed in English, a task which was originally started by an idealistic guy in the US or Canada pretty much on a self-publishing basis, and after one or two albums, renowned comic publisher IDW took up the task, I think even hiring the idealistic guy as their editor for the series. So don’t let it be said that re-publishing European graphic novels from the 80s in English can’t be a worthwhile and profitable undertaking!

Just a little note: Matthias’s style has changed a lot since the 80s, especially in coloring. And while I know that the artist should have the last word, his recent uploads of his favorite work of mine, “Bell’s Theorem”, do show how he’s purposefully editing them heftily in Photoshop today, not only changing the original mood a lot but being obvious edits by showing artifacts and such. I dunno, maybe Matthias or one of the original publishers (Carlsen, Catalan, Albin Michel, or that Danish publisher) still have the black-and-white inks to it? I mean, even if I’m still attached to the bleak and dreary atmosphere of the original 80s-style coloring, I thought if Matthias really wants a new style then a new coloring from scratch by going back to the original b/w inks would look better in my opinion than what he’s doing to the color scans of the prints in Photoshop now.

Oh, and the original English translation by Leighton for Catalan often seems a bit flat to me, compared to how I think I would translate it.

Whoops, sorry, it’s NBM Publishing, noit IDW!

      • Benjamin Dietze sagt:

And another correction: NBM, named as the English-language publisher on Wikipedia, obviously did a few of Schuiten & Peeters comics back in the 90s, and I was right to say IDW is doing it now: http://www.theobscurecities.com/alaxispress/
